Let’s celebrate the joys and benefits of active and safe transportation with UTown@UBC and the UNA!

During Walk ‘n Roll Celebration Week you can expect lots of fun safety and education initiatives including:

・Bike safety checks, and a fun obstacle course, courtesy of the AMS Bike Co-op

・Walk ‘n Roll Passport and prizes

・Walking School Bus from select campus neighbourhoods

・Car Free Moning at Norma Rose Elementary School

Here is a message from The UNA to pass along to your children:

Oct 1-5 is the Walk ‘n Roll to School Celebration Week. Three walking buses will be led by parent volunteers from different neighbourhoods to NRP. Invite your classmates to walk ‘n roll to school with you. The division that logs most trips on their passports will win an ice cream party!

The Point Grey Fiesta is the community’s annual start-of-summer event for families and friends. Starting with a Saturday parade on West 10th avenue, the Saturday celebration continues in Trimble Park with stage performances, activities and exhibitors. Carnival rides in Trimble Park operate from Friday to Sunday. With the exception of the carnival rides and midway games, Fiesta entertainment and children’s activities are free of charge.

Car Free Morning – Friday, June 1

This is a kind reminder that tomorrow is Car Free Day, and the Walk n’ Roll group will leave earlier in the morning.

Car Free Morning: On June 1 (tomorrow), between 8:00 and 10:00 AM, Ortona Road will be closed for vehicular access. The Walking School Bus will leave early (please refer to the schedule below) for kids to participate fun activities and games, check out the fire truck and meet a RCMP officer. See road closure notification for alternative drop-off points.

Walk n’ Roll Week/Car Free Day Road Closure

The Walk ‘n Roll to School Celebration Week is coming back from May 28 to June 1. It is a joint initiative taken by UBC Campus and Community Planning, UNA and the school. During the week, parent volunteers will lead walking bus from different neighbourhoods to Norma Rose Point school.  Here is the schedule:

May 28 – May 31

  • 8:30 am Wesbrook Village (Menchie’s)

  • 8:45 am Acadia Park Commonsblock

Pro-D Day Camp at University Chapel – May 18 Fundraising Event:

Description: At our Pro-D Day camps we combine various activities to keep students learning while having fun. The May 18th Pro-D Day camp will consist of the following elements:

  • LEGO® Robotics – Grades K and 2 get to build and program to their heart’s content – Grades 3 and up engage in games, races, sumo battles using LEGO® Mindstorms.
  • Brain / Logic Games – riddles, mazes, cryptograms and memory teasers presented in a fun way for all grades
  • Math Challenges – engaging activities to get each student excited about math
  • Sports & Board Games
  • Fun for grades K to 8

Date and Time:  Friday May 18th, 9am to 3pm

Venue:  University Chapel

Cost: By donation, min. recommended $50 -all proceeds will go to funding the NRP Robotics Team Forces of Atlantis to help them get to their International Competition in Tallinn, Estonia in June 2018. They are the ONLY Canadian team represented at the competition, which includes teams from 72 countries from around the world. Payable by Cash only when you drop off your child. Art Volunteers/Free UTown Program/Free Baseball Games

Art Volunteers

Ms. Tamara is looking for some art volunteers, as she has switched from music to art for the spring term.

Duties include such things as washing paint brushes, displaying students’ art work and helping to  maintain art supplies (eg, sharpening pencils).

Help is welcome any day or days of the week after school, for as little or as much time as you can spare.  Some jobs can also be done at home, or displaying artwork can be done during school hours.

Vancouver’s Best Little Leaguer’s vs the BEST in the world from Japan, Taiwan and around the province.

There will be at least 60 kids from Vancouver Proper in the event representing Little Mountain (2 Teams), Hastings, Jericho and Asahi.

The Japanese Team is from the Kitasuna association that has won 3 of the past 6 Little League World Series.

 Free admission! Most Fields have a concession and are on bus routes.
