Robotics Team wins 1st Place Champion’s Award at Tournament
Congratulations to the Norma Rose Point Robotics team Forces of Atlantis for winning 1st Place Champions Award at the FIRST LEGO League Lower Mainland Tournament, which was held on December 3rd at North Surrey Secondary. The members of Forces of Atlantis are: Jane Jeong (Gr. 6), Kevin Liu (Gr. 6) Iokasti Trikeriotis (Gr. 6), David Golland (Gr. 6), Lourdes Golland (Gr. 8), Elijah Gemmell (Gr. 8) and Kyoungjoo Chae (General Gordon, Gr. 6). The team was helped by coaches August Hale and Ana Golland from Daedalos Enrichment Programs.
At the tournament, the team had to present a project which they researched on the topic of water conservation. They also competed in a robotics game where their skills in robot design and programming were put to the test. The judges had this to say about them in announcing their award: “[Forces of Atlantis] are strong together, gathering their (brain) forces, and have come to ace in all areas of knowledge. This team has shown strong friendships, great design ideas and focused minds in various tasks.”

About FIRST Lego League
FIRST LEGO League is one of four FIRST® programs. FIRST is a non-profit organization with a mission to get kids excited about science and technology. FIRST and The LEGO Group partnered to create the FIRST® LEGO® League program in 1998. In the HYDRO DYNAMICS season, there will be over 235,000 kids participating in about 90 countries around the world! FIRST LEGO League teams prepared for this tournament by working on the Robot Game and a research Project, and developing their Core Values and teamwork. For the HYDRO DYNAMICS Project, each team identified a problem that happens within the human water cycle; created an innovative solution; and shared their solution with others. In the Robot Game, teams can earn points in a 2.5-minute match (text from: http://firstinspires.org)
